Observatory Hill & Woolloomooloo Engagement Session: Trung & Thu

We’re so excited about this beautiful, fun, romantic, and diverse engagement shoot! I’ve been so excited to share these photos ever since we clicked the shutter on the day with our delightful clients Trung and Thu. Although this was definitely a pre-wedding shoot, it feels part pre-wedding, part wedding day, and part fabulous day-after session! Thu wanted to wear her wedding dress—and why not? She wasn’t fussed about keeping the dress in pristine condition before the big day, so why not have some more fun with it? The dress fit her perfectly and she looked sooo gorgeous in it!

When you hang out with these two, you can just feel the allure and charm that Trung sees in Thu. You can just tell that he is completely smitten with his bride-to-be. Thu has a bit of a mysterious air about her. She loves poetry, Shakespeare and all things Victorian.

And yet, Thu would not describe herself as particularly “romantic” or sentimental. She admits that she doesn’t particularly like getting all dolled up, and when we first met she confessed that she wasn’t a big fan of weddings in general! Thu is just not into all that fancy-schmancy stuff, but she decided to make an exception for this shoot and for her wedding day of course. Even if she’s not fond of getting gussied up, I must say, the look suits her quite well! Don’t you all think so?

I absolutely love the train on Thu’s dress! It has such a beautiful drape.

Trung and Thu are both hardworking teachers in very different fields. Trung teaches the kids skills in teamwork on the basketball court and footy field, and Thu teaches her young ones how to write, and expands their minds with great literary works. Their students are clearly lucky to have them both. And it was at school where they first met five years ago!

Aren’t they so adorable together?  Thu, like many brides, insisted that she was not photogenic. Thu, I hope that these photos can show you how truly beautiful you really are.

I thought it was pretty cool that Thu was keen to sit in the grass in her dress ahead of the big day! I love this one:

You can’t tell, but there were quite a few tourists and looky-loos out on Observatory Hill on this particular afternoon. By the time we finished shooting there, Trung and Thu had a small fan club, with several girls oohing and ahhing over Thu’s beautiful dress.

And I LOVE the light in this photo. What a gorgeous day it was!

Trung and Thu really wanted lots of variety in their photos, so next we headed over to St Mary’s Cathedral beside Hyde Park for some shots with this beautiful sandstone church.

I love these! There’s that beautiful train again. So gorgeous!

For our last stop of the afternoon, we headed down to Woolloomooloo wharf, the site where Trung and Thu got engaged. Trung planned an adorably romantic proposal on the wharf, complete with a live musician and flowers strewn about the pier. When I asked Thu what raced through her mind when Trung proposed, she made me laugh when she sighed and said, “Oh gosh, I thought I’d better say yes because he’s gone all fancy!”

I am loving these next few. I just love the combination of Thu’s cute orange dress and the sunglasses. Not everyone can pull off aviators, but I think they really suit these two. Looking stylish, Trung and Thu!

Looking very handsome, Trung!  Of course, we had to take a panorama or two to properly capture the beautiful spot. Click to view it bigger!

Trung and Thu definitely took our advice when it came to changing up their outfits and bringing accessories and props. How cute are they in these hats and their leather jackets?

This is the exact spot where Trung proposed, with live musician in tow. As you may know, this wharf is a long block of (very expensive) apartments, and eventually, one resident apparently shouted at Trung and Thu to take their band elsewhere! They both laughed remembering it.

With the sun gone, we headed inside the bar area of the Blue Hotel to wind down. Special thanks to the Blue Hotel for letting us shoot inside! The lighting in here is just gorgeous and I love the architecture of the place.
