“Absence sharpens love, presence strengthens it” –Thomas Fuller.

Last week we showed you some family portraits, but we’ve been up to a lot more with our photography! We recently had the pleasure of shooting the wedding of this lovely couple and had a blast. Today we bring you some photos from their lovely engagement session at the University of Sydney! Everyone, we’d like to introduce you to Ellen and Martin…

Ellen is an Aussie and Martin hails from mother England, so they have endured quite a long-term, long-distance relationship. They met while Ellen was in England doing research for her PhD. A pretty woman with a PhD? Martin is a lucky man… and he’d be the first to admit it!![]()

Since these guys are both academically minded (they met in a library, no less) we agreed that the beautiful campus of the University of Sydney, where Ellen has also spent countless hours studying, would be the perfect backdrop for their photo shoot. The campus is full of beautiful sandstone buildings with ornate details and beautiful glass windows. For a Sydney university, this is the closest to what we imagine the famous universities of England to be like.

Just four days before the day we shot these photos, Martin landed in Sydney… after an epic TEN months apart from Ellen. Not just ten months apart in different cities… ten months apart from one another with two oceans and a continent (or two continents and an ocean, depending on how you look at it) between them. Jeff and I know first hand how much work long-distance relationships can be, and ten months is some good effort! Good ‘onya, guys!![]()

We were so happy for them that they had been reunited at last! Soon, Ellen will be joining Martin in the motherland, so we hope these photos will serve as a fond reminder of their time together in Sydney.

Here’s one of my favourite shots from the day:

From the hill where the Quad building stands there is a fantastic view of the Sydney skyline. We took some last photos in the beautiful warm light to finish off the day.

After the engagement session, we had the opportunity to witness and capture their wonderful, heartfelt, intimate, nautical-themed wedding. We look forward to sharing more of their story!
