The following weekend, it was John and Raj’s turn. But before the wedding, we took part in their Mehndi and Sangeet, a festive night involving henna, music, and entertainment.
It was all very festive and colourful, especially with many people dressed in traditional sarees. To start the night, Erin wowed the audience with her virtuoso piano performances, playing Schubert’s Impromptu in G Flat, followed by Liszt’s Liebestraume (A Dream of Love):
In addition, John’s sister touched us with her poetry while Raj’s brother hosted a game of “jeopardy” with questions on the soon to be married couple:
The next day, we all gathered high up in the hills of Malibu, at the beautiful Rancho Chiquita, overlooking the Pacific Ocean.
Here we saw not one, but two wedding ceremonies. First was the Hindu ceremony:
Followed by the Christian ceremony, which I had the honour of taking part in:
It was also great to see so many familiar faces again!
