It’s been a while since we’ve blogged about our adventures down under, but here goes. It was only a matter of time before we paid our rival city another visit. You may recall from our previous visit (over Christmas 2007) that we didn’t think Melbourne quite lived up to its hype as the “arts, cultural, sporting, fashion and food capital of Australia.”
The occasion for this visit was to see my brother Steven, who flew out from San Francisco for his second trip down under… this time to Melbourne with some of his mates from the States.
This time, we visited over a weekend and experienced a much more lively city. We certainly took advantage of the thriving nightlife, wandering around the many boutique bars scattered throughout the city.
But going out wasn’t limited to the nights. Melbourne prides itself on its labyrinth of laneways packed with chic cafes, specialty shops, and vibrant street art.
After a big night out and a day meandering through the urban maze, we stumbled upon the Curtain House Rooftop Bar. It was the perfect spot to chill under the warm sun while sipping on Pimm’s cocktails and taking in a panoramic view of the city.
All in all, it was great to catch up with my brother and meet some of his mates. And this time, Melbourne left a much better impression on us. I could begin to understand why many claim that it is more “European” than Sydney. Check out the rest of the photos from our trip to Melbourne and see for yourself.
